The staff is super friendly and very helpful in arranging all things in the park including guides for mountain hiking. You don’t need to be a professional but it’s good to be in a reasonably good shape if you would like to go for longer hikes. The hike is very rewarding, but you would also definitely have to do the waterfall tour and they will always be willing to help. If you have time, you might also want to do a community tour to explore local Arabic coffee farms, not far from the lodge.

Nights are very cold compared to the other parts of the country, so be sure to bring things to keep you warm during bedtime. You may also need some thick socks. The food is good, basic but tasty and well-seasoned! Beef stew, chicken stew, vegetable soups, mash, rice, boiled vegetables and pancakes all in large portions.

    Bandas at Lacam Lodge.

Comfortable bandas or rooms with private showers are available. Hot water for showering is also provided in the morning and late afternoon. Even though there’s no electricity, the place is pleasant to stay in.

Kerosene lamps and deemed lights are provided to guide your walk to the bedroom and bathroom. You may also need head torch or a flash light since the available lamp lights may not be bright enough or may go out, unpreparedly. The rooms are simply basic but nice and clean with compost toilets.

If you are traveling by car to Lacam lodge from Kampala, you will drive through Jinja to Mbale town. Take on the Soroti road and after about 5 minutes drive turn right towards Kapchorwa. Follow the paved road past Sironko. After 30 minutes from Mbale town, the road turns right and starts climbing the hill for about 15 minutes, where you will then reach Sipi Trading Centre. Go through the trading centre and after about 300m, turn left at the signpost for Lacam Lodge, just past the police post.

Who doesn’t want a perfect adventure? Compliment your hike to Mount Elgon’s Wagagai Peak with a gorilla trekking safari in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. You will then feel so proud by coming face to face with these rare primates, and meet the incontestable remote fields with exotic bird species.
