Kapkwata Trading Town is located in Kapchorwa district in Eastern Uganda. It is a small trading centre of Kapkwata which lies about 30km from Kapchorwa town along the murram road to the Kenyan border crossing at Suam. Kapkwata trading town is of interest mainly as the trailhead for the Piswa Trail up to Mount Elgon. In addition to being a trailhead, Kapkwata offers travelers heading to Suam a good opportunity to break up the journey, in form of an obscure forestry rest house. This is situated in the middle of a plantation at the rangers’ post that is roughly 500m past the trading centre.

Kapchorwa trading town is the main municipal, commercial, and administrative centre of Kapchorwa district. Kapchorwa Town is also home mostly to Kalenjin people, including their sub-groups; Sabiny, Pokot and Nandi. They were mainly cattle keepers in the late 1960s but a change was seen when their northern neighbors, the Karamojong, raided most of their cattle, and displaced hundreds of people.
