    Hiking Mount Elgon Uganda takes you to one of the best places for mountain climbing and hiking safaris. We will take you to hike Mount Elgon in Mbale, as well as exploring Mount Elgon National Park.

    Mount Elgon National Park supports a large variety of wildlife; elephants, buffaloes, waterbucks, oribi, bushbucks, leopards, duikers, tree squirrels, blue monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys as well as spotted hyenas. However, as it is in forest environments the animal are rarely seen.

    The park is home to more than 296 bird species, with over 40 species restricted to this area. These include Jackson’s francolin, Mustached green tinkerbird and Black collared Apalis, Green backed pigeon, Hartlaub`s Turaco and Tacazze sunbird. The mountain is one of the few places where the endangered lammergeyer can be seen soaring above the calderas and suam gorge.

    Hiking Mount Elgon Uganda Itinerary:

    Day 1: Entebbe Airport – Kampala

    You’ll be personally met on arrival at Entebbe airport, and then transferred to your accommodation.

    Dinner and overnight stay at Cassia Lodge/Entebbe Guest House. Meal Plan: Dinner

    Day 2: Visiting Mbale Town

    After breakfast you will drive to Mbale town the home of ‘Imbalu’, a male circumcision and initiation ceremony. Along the way, you may also get a chance of exploring Jinja, East Africa’s adventure capital, before heading to Mbale where the boys are circumcised and initiated into manhood.

    If you reach Mbale early enough, an exploration trail may also be great for you. Sipi trail can make one enjoy the cool mist at Chebonet falls, Kapkwai cave and the talking tree. Jungle walking shoes and rain gear are recommended.

    Day 3: Hiking Mount Elgon Uganda and Sipi Falls

    After breakfast hike the biggest volcano, Mountain Elgon. This is set on the Kenyan boarder near Mbale, it encompasses the 4,321m high mountain for which it is named. It has the largest base of extinct volcanoes in the world. The lush of mosaic afro-mountain forest, grass land, and moorland habitats that make this park a highly rewarding destination for hikers and other natural history enthusiasts.

    Mount Elgon is the fourth highest mountain in Africa, after Kilimanjaro, Mt. Kenya and the magnificient Rwenzori Mountains. A day hike will allow you to explore Mount Elgon diverse mountain forest.

    Day 4: Source of the Nile and Kampala

    After breakfast, you will check out and drive to Jinja the source of the mighty River Nile. Here, you can take a boat and be amazed at the small water spring being the source of river Nile. Drive back to Kampala or Entebbe for your evening flight back home or to your next destination.
