    Kakoro rock is an impressive granite hill located in Kakoro Sub-county, Pallisa district, in eastern Uganda. The rocks have faded orange, red, and whitish paintings that are generally in geometric shapes and concentric circles similar to Nyero rock paintings. Close by, on the same hill, but at another site are similar paintings.

    In a low shelter penetrating far under a massive upright boulder are more paintings of concentric circles and other geometric shapes. The granite hill can be seen from a great distance and from the top are some of the best scenic views of the Iteso region, the land for the Iteso people.

    Three principal shelters with orange, red, and white geometric designs are located on this hill.

    The large granite obelisk, which is balanced on rock, and the standing stone is painted with some fifteen symbols, including Twa concentric circles. This obelisk with its surroundings served as a rainmaking ritual site until recent times in the middle of the 20th century. In some places these rituals may continue up to this day.

    Mount Elgon National Park is home to over 300 species of birds, including the endangered Lammergeyer. There are also small antelopes, forest monkeys, elephants and buffalos living on the mountainside. The higher slopes are protected by national parks in both Uganda and Kenya, creating an extensive trans-boundary conservation area which was declared as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
