    • Day 1. Hike to Sasa River Camp 2,860 m
    • Day 2. Descend down to the Basecamp 1,720 m

    Overview of 2 Days Trek Sasa Trail:

    The best option is to have a pre-night stay at Sipi Heritage Lodge. To get an early start be at the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) offices at 8:00 a.m. The trek starts just above Bugiboni Village, which is now possible to reach by vehicle. We can also organize transport for you from the Budadiri UWA office to the base camp. This comes at an additional fee for guests that have no means of transportation to the Basecamp.

    Full itinerary of our 2-Day Trek Sasa Trail Mt Elgon National Park

    Day 1. Hike to Sasa River Camp 2860m.

    The trek starts at the base camp with a steady climb up through the community with coffee and maize farms with fantastic views of the valley below to the park entrance where you have three sets of steel ladders to climb up the cliffs and enter the beautiful Montane Forest. From the top of the stairs, it is a steady climb with a few short steeper sections before you enter Sasa River Camp where you sleep the night. Overnight stay at: Sasa River Camp. (Tent camping with a small foam mattress) Meal plan: Lunch and Dinner

    Day 2.  Descend down to the basecamp 1720m

    You walk back down the same trail however later we will be constructing a new trail down the Dirigana River to make a loop and experience the riverine forest in the valley and meet the main trail at the lunch spot before descending to Basecamp. Meal plan: Breakfast and Lunch

    What to pack for your journey?

    In the day pack, take along water, a camera, binoculars, rain pants, and a jacket at a minimum. Add any other items you might need during the day because you may not see the porters until the end of your trek for that day.

    Most guests visiting Mount Elgon National Park have also visit Bwindi Forests National Park for a gorilla trekking safari in Uganda. Mountain gorilla trekking in Uganda is best done during dry months of June , July and August of any year.
